Job Description:
As a member of the financial aid team, counsel students, review financial aid applications and award aid. Provide counseling to veterans and their dependants from the point of prospective student to graduation. Includes but not limited to, providing students with information regarding program availability, aid application procedures, eligibility requirements, college policies and availability of federal, state and institutional aid. Conduct all required, regulatory functions related to certification and awarding of educational benefits for veterans. Exercise care and due diligence to ensure all functions are carried out in accordance with federal, state and institutional rules, regulations and guidelines.  
 
Maintain in-depth knowledge of Veterans Administration Programs ? including all Chapters and provisions of the GI Bill, Post 911 Programs. Ability to understand the calculations and needs analysis used to determine eligibility for the VA and Financial Aid Programs.  
 
Maintain in-depth knowledge of federal, state, institutional and private financial aid programs, the regulations and policies governing the programs, and the processing procedures.  
 
Support Veteran population at institutional level with 1-on-1 aid counseling, benefit determination, forms/application assistance.  
 
Verify applicant files according to Federal requirements; review application materials for completeness and accuracy, request additional information as needed. Recommend decisions regarding individual aid applicant eligibility.  
 
Update database to reflect data changes, recalculate eligibility; package aid awards; revise aid awards based on changes in expected family contribution, enrollment changes, and receipt of other aid resources.  
 
Attend open-houses, family visit days, and form completion sessions. Work schedule varies to meet business needs.

Requirements:
A Bachelor's Degree or related experience and 2 years working knowledge concerning Veteran's Affairs and processing of their educational benefits plus 5 years of experience in the field of student financial aid, preferably at a professional level in a college financial aid office is required.  
 
The successful candidate will possess knowledge concerning all aspects of educational benefits for veterans, excellent communication skills, strong, interpersonal connection with veterans and family members, ability to successfully interact with Veteran's Affairs professionals, ability to work successfully in a fast paced, detail-oriented environment, and strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills. A basic understand of Datatel software and Veteran's Administration Software is preferred.
